I believe I left off just before last night's festivities began ...
We took our time getting the evening started. A few of us grabbed gyros up the block and then came back to the hotel and were online and whatnot. About 9:30 PM, Katula came running into our room and said there was a big concert going on in Aristotle Square with 100,000 something people partying it up. So we considered doing that, but some of the guys said they checked it out and it was mostly families with kids running around.
So we all met up in the mezzanine area about 11 PM to drink before heading out, because the drinks at bars/clubs are super expensive. Eventually we settled on going to club hotel out by the airport for lack of any other option -- we all really wanted to dance! So we hopped into some cabs and took the 20 minute drive out to all of the clubs, only to find club hotel CLOSED! What?? One of the drivers told us about another club called "Lido" that's very American-friendly. We walked over there and had to pay a 10 euro cover charge, but that included one free drink so not too much of a rip off.
It was totally crazy inside and extremely full of Greeks who don't dance. Our group of American college students, however, couldnt' stop dancing and were gettin our groove thang on! It was such a blast -- exactly the kind of night we wanted. The night wouldn't have been complete without a little drama, but all ended well. We hopped in cabs at 4 AM and didn't get to sleep until 4:30, but it was worth it!
