We Made It!

I can't believe we are finally in Greece! We just arrived at Hotel Arethousa right in the center of Athens at 6:30 PM (11:30 AM USA).

The past 24 hours have been one big blur. We met yesterday, July 5, on campus for a brief orientation at 12:30, then took the T to the airport. Departed Boston at 6:20 PM for Madrid, Spain. I didn't sleep at all on that flight, and then we had a 4 hour layover in Madrid. So we were all exhausted but couldn't sleep anywhere. Our flight to Athens left at 11:45 AM and we all passed out on that flight. I could not wake up once we landed in Athens!

From there, we had to fight our way through baggage claim, then buy bus tickets into the city. Luckily we got all 22 of us on the same bus. That was a 1-hour ride. I forgot the toll that international travel takes on the body. I am completely exhausted and would love to just go to bed. Even better is that I've never felt so disgusting in all my life. My hair is greasy and I'm sweaty and just gross. Yuck. We are getting cleaned up and resting before dinner at 9 PM.

The hotel room is pretty funny. This is a 4-star hotel in Greece, but is more comparable to a college dorm room in the states. There are two smaller-than-twin-size-beds right next to each other, so it might as well just be one double. There's a fridge and a very small TV. I already found Everybody Loves Raymond ... and it's in ENGLISH (with Greek subtitles)!

I like pretty much everyone here, it seems like a good group of people. So this should be a fun month! Tomorrow we get to sleep in a bit, and then have a tour of the acropolis and parthenon around 10 AM.

I will have internet all this week, but after that am not sure!
